How do I know if my Strat needs 18 or 24 spline knobs?

Count the number of splines in the knobs you're replacing, or count the splines on the pots you have (plus the missing splines where the "split" is). Most commonly, US-made instruments use 24-spline and instruments made elsewhere use 18-spline. But, that's not a guarantee. You should always double check to be sure.
