Are the pre-made slots meant for a specific string gauge?

The slots on pre-slotted nuts are always only ever meant to be guides to aid in proper string spacing while slotting to the correct depth and size during installation. Part of properly installing a replacement nut, including pre-slotted replacement nuts, is always to refine the slotting for the string gauge and depth needed for the particular instrument it is being installed on.
