How exactly does this screw in? Aren't the screw holes just facing empty space when this is place inside the rout?

I'd also like to ask which enclosures you would recommend for these but the character limit got me haha. It looks like they are a little too tall for a 1590BB but the 1590XX would just barely fit (on the bottom face). I would really like to incorporate these into my builds but I'm just not too clear on how to do that so any help would be much appreciated.

These are meant to screw into the wood of solid-body electric guitars. For the reasons you describe, they are not particularly appropriate for hollow body instruments or pedal enclosures. I suppose it would be possible to mount them if you glued it into place, but that wouldn't be recommended.
