It is a threaded bushing, not a nut. So, yes, it can be removed. But, you won't really be able to use the jack without it.
Is the silver nut part threaded and can remove? Generic - 1/4" Stereo Switching Jack (6 lug; solder)
Does the silver nut part unscrew form the body of jack?
